Have You Paid? Air Passenger Duty Rates Update
On the 1st February 2007 Gordon Brown’s new Air Passenger Duty rates come into effect. This means that even if you booked you flight before the new rates were annouced and are flying on or after the 1st Feb you still have to pay the new rates.
How much is it?:
Economy class flights in Europe, including internal UK flights, £10 Business and first class flights in Europe £20 Economy class long-haul flights £40 Business and first class long-haul flights £80
Check with your airlines as some are contacting passengers prior to travel in order to collect the extra payment. Easyjet are giving it’s passengers until the 15th Jan to cough up. Leeds based Jet2 are automatically debiting the cards their customers used when they booked their flights. Monarch are currently contacting their customers by email.
Zoom Airlines are asking that all passengers booked to travel contact them to pay the increase in tax prior to travel.
British Airways are to absorb all the costs themselves and not passing them on to the passengers that have already made their reservations.
Virgin Atlantic and BMI are yet to decided on a plan.
Those booked on a package holiday should not expect to be charged any further said ABTA. If in doubt contact your tour operator directly before paying any demands for extra fees from your travel agent.
